Kind helpers preparing for Sergio's homecoming.
Sergio is home.
Sergio came home Thursday Dec 22. Just in time for
Christmas.
The homecoming has been a great boost to his spirit and perhaps
sobering as well. Things are not as they have been. And the adjustment is a heavy
one.
Sergio is still not talking much, but Taline’s love and
dedication to him as a wife does a comforting job of second guessing
and helping him retain dignity.
When it comes to medical care though, Sergio is not co-operative with Taline. He seems to be reticent to take care from her.
Its like he wants her to be his wife not his caretaker. Last time she went to
administer an injection he unwittingly caused the needle to go into her own
hand.
The caretaker said, he is experiencing much frustration. No doubt he is.
After 20 minutes of their usual hour long Christmas light viewing, he asked to be taken home. His energy level has been compromised. And his usual cheerful upbeat self has been too.
He has his last round of radiation next week. And then a scan will be taken 1 month after that. This will show what the tumor in his brain has been up to.
Fortunately people’s donations have made it possible to have
24 hour in home care at this point. But it is an expensive venture to keep him
at home. Of course that is his and his family’s desire. When the family looks back at how their needs have been met by friends and family so far- it inspires more faith. In the coming months, additional costs will be incurred for home health care, respite care, physical therapy, and cancer treatment.
So, here is the challenge.
We are asking as many of you as possible to join with us in committing to:
1) MAKE a recurring donation *each month for the next 3 months* - each one will determine the amount he or she can give, but $25/month/person is a starting suggestion
2) SHARE the blog and fundraiser sites on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other social media
3) ASK their social media contacts to share and re-post
4) PRAY for Sergio's recovery through physical therapy rehabilitation, strength during cancer treatment, and time in good health that exceeds all expectations
We want to help the Perez family reach a combined goal of:
1) $60,000 raised - this will provide $10K/month to support medical costs over the next 6 months
2) 2000 shares
We don't have anyone to track these 4 challenges. But if you take one on, we would love for you to leave a comment at http://sergiossojourn.blogspot.com
